This feature is a question-and-answer session with a new Blount County Chamber member. So here we go with our 75th installment visiting with Paul Fain, president of Asset Planning Corporation which helps individuals, couples, and families make wise decisions with their money.

Describe what you do. We provide an integrated wealth management platform for financial success and security: Comprehensive financial planning + portfolio management.

How did you get started? Our firm was founded in 1975 by a financial planning pioneer, the late P. Kemp Fain, Jr. I joined the firm as his apprentice in 1988.

What is your background? In 1990, I met the qualifications of education and examination to become a Certified Financial Planner(tm) practitioner.

Who is your mentor? I am still greatly influenced by my late father’s career and works. On a day-to-day basis, I participate in an amazing study group comprised of eight of the country’s top financial planners.

Describe your customers. Our clients are a wonderfully diverse group of delegators: pre- and post-retirees, 2nd generation family, physicians and educators and executives and engineers.

What impacts your work environment? The only constant is change so a small business needs to be flexible and prepared for the expected and the unexpected.

Name three things you wish you knew when you started. 1) Self-care is vitally important to being the best financial planner I can be; 2) Trusting and relying on others is a key to long-term success; 3) Resilience is a muscle that is strengthened through adversity.

What do you enjoy most about your work? Working with an amazing team of talented and caring people. Seeing clients fulfill their life goals and enjoying the fruits of their financial plans.
