This feature is a question-and-answer session with a new Blount County Chamber member. So here we go with our 68th installment visiting with Jeff Morton, owner of Morton Construction which does all aspects of residential and commercial building, painting, and remodeling.

Describe what you do? We have over 50 years of experience in residential, industrial, institutional and commercial painting profession. We love our profession and love to meet people. For us, building and painting is a way of life, it is a part of who we are.

How did you get started?I have been told that it is in my DNA! I have been on job sites working with my family as long as I can remember.

How did you get the necessary background and skills? Although I did learned some skills through trade schools, the majority of my training is on the job. Most of my experience came from my father, and all my uncles who have been in the building, painting & remodel, profession over two generations.

Who is your mentor? I have been blessed with way too many mentors and supporters to count. However, I will mention my father, the hardest working man I have ever meet, a man full of integrity and honesty who was loved by everyone that knew him. He taught me that my word was my bond with people and to do what I said I would do. He also taught me to value people, and the importance of holding myself accountable to others.

Describe your customers. The wealthy and the poor, the young and the senior, home towners and out of towners. We have worked with them all. I can truly say it has been a privilege to meet such wonderful people, and to enjoy all the cultural differences that comes with working one on one with others.

What do you enjoy most? The people I get to meet and work with on a daily bases and the clients that have kept coming back year after year.
