The Dialogue with Melony Colquitt

This feature is a question-and-answer session with a new Blount County Chamber member. So here we go with our 103rd installment visiting with Melony Colquitt of SendOutCards, which is a Relationship Marketing Company whose primary goal is to help businesses build better relationships with their current customers and prospects and gain more referrals.
Describe how SendOutCards works. My business offers an online system where businesses can send out personalized correspondence to their customers, patients, clients or staff throughout the year. We offer pre-made greeting cards from a catalog or you can create your own with your own handwriting and signature, logo's and pictures. The beauty of it is the company addresses, stamps and mails the card for you. Your customer gets a beautiful card in his mailbox and you can even add a gift. Our phone app makes it super simple to send appreciation in a minute from your phone. Cards can be scheduled to go out automatically throughout the year also.
What is your background? My business is a people business. I've had experience as a buyer, manager and sales. I have a marketing degree from UTK.
Who is your mentor? Kori and Steven Burgess are my mentors. They encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone in order to grow. They impressed upon me how I needed to read books and develop myself as much as learn how to gain more business knowledge. They taught me how important it is to network and give referrals to others.
Describe your customers. My customers are busy people who care about their customers, but don't have time to keep in touch with them in a consistent way. They may have huge data bases or a handful of customers but they need to let them all know that they appreciate doing business with them. My customers like to have an easy way to follow up with prospects also. I work with large businesses, mom and pop stores and individuals who want to send out birthday and holiday cards on time. They can send out 1 card or 100's of cards at a time.
What impacts the business environment you work in? My business really isn't affected by changes in the environment. All businesses need to find a way to appreciate the people who do business with them. Building great relationships with people is the key to success.
Name three things you wish you knew when you started. Presenting skills, public speaking skills and better organization skills.
What do you enjoy about running the business? I love to see my clients get more referrals and watch their business grow because they are sending out kindness to their people who impact their life. Their prospects and customers will call and thank them for the beautiful card and gift they sent them. Everyone feels good about that. My business is always positive because we're making people feel special by appreciating them with something as simple as a greeting card.
