The Dialogue with Trevis Gardner

This feature is a question-and-answer session with a new Blount County Chamber member. So here we go with our 47th installment visiting with Trevis Gardner, CEO & General Manager of Rocky Top Shock Youth Sports which looks to have a positive impact on the lives of the youth in our community and their families.
What goes on at the club? Rocky Top Shock Youth Sports Club organizes developmental and competitive boys and girls basketball teams from 3rd through High School ages. We are devoted to providing the environment to support youth in developing their foundations of faith, individual and team athletic abilities, individual ethics and principles so that they can be successful in life, no matter what they may pursue.
How did you get started? In 2011 there were no consistent AAU or Tournament league basketball club options for youth in Blount County. Application for an AAU Charter and getting teams organized was relatively easy. Recruiting coaches and getting accepted by school based programs was more challenging.
What are some things you've learned? Every parent has a different opinion about youth sports. Some want their child or team to win at any cost. Some don't care if they never win a game, as long as the kids have fun.
What do you enjoy about this venture? I enjoy the opportunity of engaging in a not for profit volunteer based organization. When you remove the financial motivation, and don't worry about who gets credit for their hard work, you can do amazing things to help others.
