The Dialogue with John Watson
This feature is a question-and-answer session with a new Blount County Chamber member. So here we go with our 40th installment visiting with John Watson, president of Common Grounds Landscape Management, Inc., whose runs a service company with a servant's heart. They provide unparalleled customer service at a fair price in the management of landscapes.
What does Common Grounds Landscape Management do? We provide regularly scheduled professional landscape management service that includes turf management, landscape bed management, irrigation management, and seasonal color installation and management.
How did you get started? After completing my studies at the University of Tennessee while working for Jim McClain Nursery my wife and I purchased the maintenance division and became Common Grounds Landscape Management, Inc. in 1989.
Who is your mentor? Jim McClain was the first person to encourage me to attend the university to study landscape design and management. He guided and supported me at that time and later as the company began to grow encouraged me to focus on the things we do well.
Describe your customers. Our customers are mostly commercial properties requiring an upscale professional image with reliable scheduled service.
As a "green" company, what do you do to help the environment? As we are the original "Green Industry" we have taken ownership of the responsibility we have for the environment. We use alternative fuels to power our mowing equipment (propane), we perform integrated pest management (IPM) to limit the amount of chemicals in out pest and disease management.
What do you enjoy the most about your profession? Solving our customers problems and making their properties look better to their clients and owners.
