The Dialogue with Joel Honeycutt

This feature is a question-and-answer session with a new Blount County Chamber member. So here we go with our 19th installment visiting with Joel Honeycutt, owner of J&S Janitorial Solutions, which provides custom cleaning solutions to local businesses.
What sets J&S apart? J&S Janitorial Solutions provides commercial cleaning services. This includes carpet cleaning, hard floor cleaning (including VCT, tile and concrete) and office cleaning. We find that many businesses are frustrated with their past carpet cleaning experiences. Many methods used for residential do not work well in commercial settings. Problems include long dry times, hoses running through the building, water wicking and recurring spots. Our low moisture cleaning system that is optimal for commercial carpet resolves all those issues and leaves the carpet looking GREAT!
How did you get started? I've always desired to be an entrepreneur. A family friend was selling his janitorial business and I decided to purchase it and grow it. J&S stands for myself Joel and my wife Stefanie. But these are also the initials of our two daughters. They are actively involved in the business as well. J&S is truly a family owned business!
What's your background? I grew up working for my dad, who owned a large janitorial company in West Tennessee. Our clients included Walmart, Krogers, and Piggly Wiggly. After high school I went into construction work and then into retail at Lowe's, combining my construction and customer service skills. When the opportunity arose I was very excited to return to my janitorial roots.
Name three things you wish you knew when you started. I wish I would have immediately joined the Chamber! And I wish I would have understood more about website design and SEO. Other than those things I'm very proud of the growth of my business and our professionalism.
What do you enjoy about your business? I enjoy the opportunity to exceed the expectations of my clients. I work with each one to determine their needs and problems and what solutions we can offer to meet those needs. We have a new customer who had a recurring spot that would come back every time the carpets were cleaned, for 16 years! I was able to permanently get rid of this spot. The client could not be happier and neither could I! I also really enjoy including my family in this business.
