''Paws for a Cause'' was something to Bark About
Union Grove Credit Union student workers coordinated their second annual “Paws for a Cause” this fall. The event ran from October 29 through November 9, and benefitted the Blount County Animal Center, 233 Currie Avenue. Union Grove students and staff generously donated items such as cat litter, dog and cat food, toys, blankets, and bleach. According to Becky Sparks, Financial Outreach Advisor for Y-12 FCU, “The students enjoyed the opportunity to participate in the Credit Union driven initiative and the Animal Center Staff was thrilled to receive the needed supplies.”
In 2009 Y-12 Federal Credit Union partnered with two schools to open the first student run branches which now have grown to include 9 high schools and 3 middle schools, Union Grove Credit Union was established in 2012. Through the years several students have had the opportunity to open credit union accounts, to learn how to establish good financial habits, and have gained hands-on experience working as volunteer Member Service Consultants.
