For the first time in five years, the H.O.G. Rally is coming back to Maryville for 2018! This summer event for Harley owners is a great time to grab your bike and experience some of the best rides in the Smokies, but you don’t have to wait for this event. The area is perfect for rides any time, and the H.O.G. Rally is just one of the many times that motorcycle lovers can gather in one of the most scenic areas of the country.

Ride the Dragon

Located near Maryville and just a short ride away from Gatlinburg, the Tail of the Dragon is one of the most well-known motorcycle rides in the area. This 11-mile section of road is not for the faint of heart! With 318 S-curves in the short distance, it offers some of the most breathtaking scenery in the area if you’re up for the challenge. The speed limit is 30 miles per hour, but the steep downhill ride won’t feel like any gentle cruise you’ve ever taken before. The road is carefully patrolled, and the lack of intersections or driveways makes it easy to lose yourself in the ride without too much worry.

Check Out Cades Cove

Nearby Cades Cove is always a delight for motorcyclists. This motor-tourism loop is separate from any through traffic, so the only other drivers you’ll meet are also there to take it slow and soak up the scenery. You’ll see mountains, wildlife, and historic settlements along the way, and there are plenty of places to stop and stretch your legs on the drive. The ride from Townsend to Cades Cove is tranquil and just as gorgeous. Cades Cove has a speed limit of 20 miles per hour, and the 11-mile loop is perfect for riders who want an easy cruise.

Try Foothills Parkway

Only part of the Foothills Parkway is currently open, but it’s a beautiful 16.5-mile section that is perfect for a leisurely ride. There are wide lanes and beautiful views, so you can simply settle in for a lovely ride through the mountains. This area is accessed through Walland, and is under construction for a final pass that will lead to Townsend. Go ahead and enjoy the ride now, and you’ll be able to see even more of this trip in the future as the road is continued. You can also access this route via the Tail of the Dragon.
